My saving grace in high school.

The one place I could walk in every day and everything else would fall away when the first note rang out. Every child should have something like that. Something that inspires them to reach into their soul and give everything they’ve got … to be a part of something magical.

Several years ago I had the opportunity to attend a fundraiser for an organization that provides just that kind of opportunity for children here in Denver. That day, Ballet Nouveau Colorado showed me how they touch the lives of children every day.

And now Ballet Nouveau Colorado needs our help to stay alive. I received an e-mail a couple weeks ago talking of the difficult economic climate and how it has affected BNC. Without raising what seems an insurmountable sum by the end of July, the organization will have to close its doors, and hundreds of children will have to find other dance programs, and a few may not be able to dance anymore. This is a story that sings to me … it tells of the kids at Ballet Nouveau Colorado who have been touched so deeply, changed for the better and who may be cast aside if this organization doesn’t raise close to $190,000 by July 30^th. Perhaps you will be touched, too.

Last fall I hired a studio manager. It was one of the best decisions I made for my business all year. Kat helped me keep my schedule straight and my sanity in tact during a very bust fall season. She has been a true gift. So it is with great fanfare that I introduce you to Kat’s newest addition to her family, Evan. I was fortunate enough to have time to snuggle with this little guy when he was about one week new. Kat and I both found ourselves hormonally challenged while pregnant, with a swift return to normal after giving birth … so here’s to having a beautiful baby and no more crazy hormones, Kat! Sending you and your family lots of love.

It is quite an honor when a talented photographer calls to have their family portraits taken. So often, photographers are the last ones in front of the camera. Many of us are either preserving memories with our cameras or are taking a break from holding a camera. It is so important to take the time and make the investment in having pictures taken and memories preserved. Life is fleeting and the images we have of our children and family are so much more than beautiful art. They provide memories in the best of times, but also when life takes unexpected turns. It is important to make the time, save the money and find someone you love to create images that will last a lifetime. Mary Elizabeth Graff called me for just that reason. She is always behind her camera creating beautiful images for other people … it was a joy to create images for her and her family. Take a peek at her gorgeous boys …

Isaac is a big brother now. If you have been following my blog, you’ll remember Stephana, the adorable little girl that Isaac’s family adopted from Haiti. Stephana joined Isaac a little sooner than expected, due to the devastating earthquake in Haiti this past January. It has been a delight to watch as Stephana adapts to her new family and home … she is definitely coming out of her shell (and is completely in love with her big brother). I am posting a couple sneak peeks here, but will continue the story over on my Lenses of Love blog … dedicated to giving the gift of photography to others. Dad (aka Robb) was a huge help, and didn’t even mind that the house was a sauna so little Lily could pose for us. Here’s to you, Robb … and to all the other wonderful men who love and cherish their children with every breath they take.

I love working with my littlest clients as they grow. Remember the adorable baby images of Dante? You can see them here. Mom asked me to come back for a Lenses of Love session to raise money for orphans in Haiti and to update Dante’s pictures because he is one now! This little guy is just scrumptious … and his parents have an awesome home to take pictures in. Enjoy!

As I sat in front of my television watching the horrific images from Haiti play over and over … I knew I wanted to do something. We have three beautiful children ages 7 and under, and adopting a beautiful child from Haiti wasn’t an option for us at this point in our journey. But I do have two friends who were in the process of adopting a baby girl from Haiti the earthquake ripped through the already impoverished nation earlier this month. I can only imagine the sleepless nights spent worrying about whether their daughter had food, shelter and water and what kind of trauma she was going through.

Last week my friends flew to Pittsburgh to pick up their angel, a beautiful 11-month-old named Stephana. While their story has a happy ending, there are still many children stuck in Haiti who desperately need help. Due to the urgency of this situation, I am embarking on a journey here in Denver to raise money for Kentucky Adoption Services … an organization that is helping orphans in Port-au-Prince. I have created a group called Lenses of Love and I am asking today to ask for your help and participation.

You get beautiful images AND help the orphans in Haiti. Book your Limited Edition Lenses of Love session by February 14th (you have until April 30th to have your session with me) and I will donate 100% of the sitting fee to Kentucky Adoption Services. I am offering a special sitting fee for this fundraiser of $150 (normally $250). I have a limited number of sessions available so book today … just in time for Valentine’s Day!
