My saving grace in high school.

The one place I could walk in every day and everything else would fall away when the first note rang out. Every child should have something like that. Something that inspires them to reach into their soul and give everything they’ve got … to be a part of something magical.

Several years ago I had the opportunity to attend a fundraiser for an organization that provides just that kind of opportunity for children here in Denver. That day, Ballet Nouveau Colorado showed me how they touch the lives of children every day.

And now Ballet Nouveau Colorado needs our help to stay alive. I received an e-mail a couple weeks ago talking of the difficult economic climate and how it has affected BNC. Without raising what seems an insurmountable sum by the end of July, the organization will have to close its doors, and hundreds of children will have to find other dance programs, and a few may not be able to dance anymore. This is a story that sings to me … it tells of the kids at Ballet Nouveau Colorado who have been touched so deeply, changed for the better and who may be cast aside if this organization doesn’t raise close to $190,000 by July 30^th. Last fall I hired a studio manager. It was one of the best decisions I made for my business all year. Kat helped me keep my schedule straight and my sanity in tact during a very bust fall season. She has been a true gift. So it is with great fanfare that I introduce you to Kat’s newest addition to her family, Evan. I was fortunate enough to have time to snuggle with this little guy when he was about one week new. Kat and I both found ourselves hormonally challenged while pregnant, with a swift return to normal after giving birth … so here’s to having a beautiful baby and no more crazy hormones, Kat! Sending you and your family lots of love.

This post is in honor of Lily’s first Father’s Day. She is lucky to be part of such a warm, loving family. Dad (aka Robb) was a huge help, and didn’t even mind that the house was a sauna so little Lily could pose for us. Here’s to you, Robb … and to all the other wonderful men who love and cherish their children with every breath they take.

I feel so lucky every time I get to hold and snuggle a newborn. This little girl was the first of three newborns I had the opportunity to photograph all in one week. Let me just tell you how lucky I was … Lyla slept and ate a little and snuggled right in. I got to do lots of neat poses and even get some cute shots of her with Mom and Dad. See for yourself!

As I sat in front of my television watching the horrific images from Haiti play over and over … I knew I wanted to do something. We have three beautiful children ages 7 and under, and adopting a beautiful child from Haiti wasn’t an option for us at this point in our journey. But I do have two friends who were in the process of adopting a baby girl from Haiti the earthquake ripped through the already impoverished nation earlier this month. I can only imagine the sleepless nights spent worrying about whether their daughter had food, shelter and water and what kind of trauma she was going through.

Last week my friends flew to Pittsburgh to pick up their angel, a beautiful 11-month-old named Stephana. While their story has a happy ending, there are still many children stuck in Haiti who desperately need help. Due to the urgency of this situation, I am embarking on a journey here in Denver to raise money for Kentucky Adoption Services … an organization that is helping orphans in Port-au-Prince. I have created a group called Lenses of Love and I am asking today to ask for your help and participation.

You get beautiful images AND help the orphans in Haiti. Book your Limited Edition Lenses of Love session by February 14th (you have until April 30th to have your session with me) and I will donate 100% of the sitting fee to Kentucky Adoption Services. I am offering a special sitting fee for this fundraiser of $150 (normally $250). I have a limited number of sessions available so book today … just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Lenses of Love sessions include:

phone consultation to answer questions and discuss location and clothing
a full 1-2 hour session with me
35-40 fully-edited images posted to an online slideshow

It gets even better … for every Lenses of Love session I book, I will be donating a mini-session to families in town who have adopted children from Haiti.

This is one of the first family sessions I had after returning from Santa Barbara … and I loved every minute of it! I love spending time with families. It is a gift each family shares with me … a little sliver of time never to be regained, but to be treasured forever with beautiful images. Eli’s Mom and Dad love this little guy so much and he was a delight to hang with. I love, love, love this age. Perhaps because I am in the midst of it with my own daughter, or perhaps because toddlers this age are just yummy and hysterical and fun to be around. I loved seeing the world through Eli’s eyes, and I know you will, too!

The holiday season is definitely upon me … so in the rush of getting slideshows to everyone, some of my blog posts will be out of order (I’ll putting some post-sneaks up!). Just so you know!

When I traveled to Santa Barbara at the end of September for a FANTASTIC workshop with Jesh DeRox, I also had the opportunity for my first on-location out-of-state session. Allison and Charlie met me (with their mom, Melissa) at the old Santa Barbara Mission … a beautiful place to play with beautiful kids! Melissa is a friend of a friend, and I feel super lucky to have met her and spent time with her. Can’t wait until you come out to Colorado, Melissa!
